Use this when a blog header has to match a fixed size, or an attachment needs to get lighter. Pick one image, set the size, check the result, and save.

1. Get ready: which images work

The tool handles one still image at a time. It accepts JPG, PNG, and WebP; it does not accept GIF, HEIC, or SVG. There is no batch mode, so a folder of images means one pass per image.

The result keeps the original format. PNG stays PNG, JPEG stays JPEG, WebP stays WebP. A PNG with a transparent background stays transparent.

2. Three steps

Step 1 — Add the image

Drop it on the dashed box on the tool page, or click Choose image. Reading the file happens inside the browser, so nothing is uploaded.

Step 2 — Set the size

Once the original dimensions appear, choose a unit and enter a value. Lock ratio is on by default, so changing the width adjusts the height to the original proportions.

Step 3 — Review and save

Click Create preview and the original sits next to the result. If it looks right, click Download image. If you change a value afterwards, build the preview again before saving.

Your original file stays put. The saved file gets a -resized suffix: resizing photo.jpg gives you photo-resized.jpg.

3. Setting the size: pixels, percent, lock

  • Pixels — enter the width and height in px. Use this when a board or social network publishes a fixed size.
  • Percent — enter a ratio of the original. At 50% both sides become half as long.
  • Lock ratio — while it is on, changing one side moves the other along with it. Turn it off to set width and height independently.

Turning the lock off is rarely the right move. If the target is square and the photo is wide, crop it first instead of squeezing it. This tool changes size only; it does not crop.

4. Choosing a unit

A clear purpose usually gives you a clear number. Here are the sizes that come up most.

Where it goesSuggested setting
Blog or cafe headerPixels 1200 × 630
Instagram squarePixels 1080 × 1080
Profile or thumbnailPixels 320 × 320
Half the original sizePercent 50%
A4 print at 300dpiPixels 2480 × 3508

With no fixed target, percent is easier. You skip the arithmetic and go straight to 80% or 50%.

5. Quality and metadata

Shrinking is safe. Enlarging beyond the original fills in pixels that were never there, and the result looks soft. If a small image has to get bigger, finding the original is the better fix.

JPEG is recompressed on save. Shrink the same file repeatedly and the losses pile up, so keep the original and start from it each time.

Camera information (EXIF) may not survive the round trip. That means device, date, and location data can drop out of the saved file, which helps when you would rather not share where a photo was taken.

6. Size limits

Two limits keep the browser inside what it can handle: 16,000 px per side, and 60 million pixels in total. For example 6,000 × 10,000 is exactly 60 million and goes through, while 6,000 × 10,001 is refused. Percent accepts up to 1,000%.

When you hit a limit, the status line says so. Lower the value and the preview rebuilds right away.

7. Common mistakes

Mistake 1 — Changing one side only

With the lock off, changing just the width leaves faces flat or stretched. Keep it on unless you have a reason not to.

Mistake 2 — Expecting detail from upscaling

Enlarging makes the file bigger, not the detail. A blurry photo does not sharpen by being scaled up.

Mistake 3 — Trying to add several images

One image per pass. Work through a folder one at a time. If the file names also need cleaning up, the renamer handles that job.

Mistake 4 — Worrying about overwriting the original

It does not happen. The download is a new file with a -resized suffix, and your original stays as it was.

What next

Once a set of images is the right size, the next job is usually the names.
